Skipper Jim Melody again proved to be the key man as Sileby's Second XI returned to winning ways with a comfortable eight wicket win over Leicester Banks Seconds at Banks Road. The right hander registered his fifth score of fifty or more, out of six innings', as he notched 78 of Sileby's 150 runs as they comfortably chased down the home sides 149 for 9 from their 45 overs. Melody had also been one of the chief destroyers with the ball as his leg breaks accounted for three of the home batsmen, while Phil Hackett bagged 4-35 in an excellent spell as The Banks failed to post a meaningful total. Ryan Dawson, claiming his first Second XI wicket for Sileby, and Steve Ingram claimed the other two wickets to fall as Sileby completely dominated the match, while Jono Gaydon pouched three catches in the outfield in an excellent fielding display. A century stand between Melody and Joe Charity (47) then put pay to any hopes that The Banks may have had of causing an upset, but both men would fall before the close, leaving Jono Gaydon and Charlie Sutton to issue the last rights and give Sileby 23 points to keep them in touch with the top three in Division Four. Sileby currently lie in fourth spot, two points off having second spot outright and 13 points shy of Stoughton & Thurnby, who are top of the table on 163 points. Sileby face up to eighth placed Ashby Hastings at Mill Lane this weekend. |
