Despite a spirited rearguard action, an early collapse put pay to a Sileby victory as Ashby Hastings Seconds left Mill Lane with the win in Everards Division Four.
After slipping to 70 for 6, Mick Summerfield and Dan Tompkins stopped the wrote in a stand of 46 for the seventh wicket and Tompkins also shared in a stand of 62 with Sam Gale.
Summerfield hit three boundaries in his 26, Tompkins two in his 20 not out and Gale six in his 47 not out as Sileby closed on 178 for 7 from their 45 overs.
Nigel Ellis bagged 3-32 for the visitors while Harris claimed the other four wickets to fall to finish with 4-63.
The Ashby reply started well for Sileby, with the early wicket of Carline (1), who was caught by Joe Charity at mid on off the bowling of Lila Godhania to give the home side some early momentum.
However, that early momentum was checked with a stand of 92 between Evans (56) and Burns (57) before both men succumbed to the leg spin of skipper Jim Melody to leave the visitors on 134 for 3.
Another quick wicket, that of Joyce, caught excellently at point by Ryan Dawson off Ben Cavey, for 15, gave Sileby renewed hope.
However, those hopes were soon dispelled as Ellis and Livesey saw their side to just before the finishing line, only for two strikes at the death to give Sileby an extra bowling point.
Jono Gaydon got his first wicket for Sileby to dismiss Livesey and then Charlie Sutton, who was a former team mate of Ellis' at Countesthorpe, had Ellis caught behind by Summerfield for 15.
Despite these two late strikes, Ashby still recorded a win, but by four wickets, leaving them with 22 points and Sileby with eight.
Sileby face their second of three back to back home matches next weekend as they host Gracedieu Park Firsts at Mill Lane. |
